Issue 6 2014
and we are encouraging services to
include their local partner responding
agencies where possible.
With regards to Airwave handset
use and operational communications,
JESIP has focussed on what it can
do to improve things in this area and
this includes:
»
Airwave module in interoperability
command training courses and
supporting Aide Memoire
»
Standard Airwave test for services
which will be incorporated
into the Control Room training
in development
»
A review of Airwave Tactical
Advisor training to bring
about consistency
»
Glossary – a web based index
of terminology to encourage
commonly understood language
amongst response organisations
Overall JESIP will touch thousands
of staff within the response sector.
It will be the largest scale training
programme to affect services ever.
However, this is only the start and
JESIP will also instigate change
that will last beyond the end of
the programme.
Our legacy arrangements will
include ensuring training in the
joint working principles reaches all
appropriate staff and are built into
services’ future training programmes;
testing and exercising activities can
incorporate testing for interoperability
knowledge and skills,; awareness
packages are made available for
wider category 1 & 2 responders;
a Tri-Service Governance board is
established to “own” interoperability in
the future to ensure learning from what
happens today can smoothly progress
to national policy and procedural
changes as and when required.
We need to ensure the good work
JESIP has started continues. We need
to ensure services more routinely plan
together, train together and, test and
exercise together. This is the only true
way to improve interoperability.
The Joint Doctrine and more
details about why JESIP has been
established, what we will do and
our latest news can be found on our
website
or follow us
on twitter @jesip999.
Having clear interoperable
communications between
emergency services is
critical for ensuring the
best possible response,
and the work of JESIP is
a key enabler to support
this. In tandem, Airwave
works with our customers
to ensure they can use the
communications between
the different agencies in the
most effective way
