“The radio system in all respects is
more than fit for purpose and far
out-performs our previous capability.”
Lima Solutions have been
an Airwave supplier for
more than three years and
their management team has
worked with Airwave on
emergency services projects
for the last ten years. They
carry out radio fitting work
both in vehicle and fixed
sites for Airwave on a range
of projects.
With the new BSR system, barrack
security personnel are now able to
communicate across geographically-
diverse garrison areas, as well as
with the emergency services and a
range of public safety organisations.
Airwave’s installation of the
fixed-station equipment across the
MOD’s mainland barracks across
Great Britain was implemented as
a rolling programme.
Airwave worked with Army
Command’s Commercial Radio Team
(CRT) and barrack security staff to
ensure their specific requirements were
met. These combined efforts brought
about the successful delivery of 1,200
radio terminals for security staff within
one month of order acceptance.
“Prior to the installation phase of the
project we worked with the customer
to carry out site surveys. This made it
possible to produce tailored designs
for the fixed radio installations, which
once accepted by the army were used
to plan the installation schedule,” says
Andy Glover, Lead Client Director at
Airwave. Project implementation was
carried out by Lima Solutions, an
established Airwave contractor.
The handheld radio terminals and
desktop radios (typically deployed
in guard rooms across the MOD
estate) were selected to provide
a combination of the outstanding
durability and performance that the
MOD expects from their equipment.
“We received excellent feedback
from the client, who has been very
pleased with the quality of the service,
professionalism and the flexibility
shown by the team,” said Richard.
The Army Radio upgrade
programme follows a national Airwave
Service upgrade for the RSPCA, in
which more than 500 new vehicles
were equipped with radios.
Airwave Direct Product Manager
Simon Fagan stresses how important
projects like this are to Airwave.
“Projects like this enable us to
deliver according to our customers’
needs, especially those outside
of the emergency services, such
as public safety agencies who
require access to Airwave’s ESN.
Airwave teams include ex-military
veterans where appropriate, because
they help us to really get to the
nub of what our customers want
and how we can help achieve their
project objectives – and quite often
much more.”
