Airwave at Critical Communications Middle East (CCME)
Airwave recently demonstrated its latest digital policing solutions at the 2015 CCME event in Dubai, which was attended by 1000+ senior critical communications professionals including representatives from the emergency services and public safety from across the Middle East and rest of the world.
Norman Dixon, Senior Business Improvement Consultant for Airwave was invited by the organisers to give a presentation on the mobile data work we have been doing with police forces and the wider Criminal Justice System in the UK. The theme of his presentation was ‘Delivering Digital Policing’, which focused on policing for the 21st Century and delivering it in an efficient and effective way.
The presentation highlighted how Airwave is working with customers in the UK to help them;
Improve the criminal justice process
Improve the officer / general public experience
Improve interoperability between police and partner agencies
Norman outlined how Airwave is working in partnership with customers to achieve their strategic objectives with the Pronto suite of mobile data applications and services, which are already being used by over a third of police forces. Airwave’s Pronto provides forces with an intuitive set of tools for collecting and inputting evidence out in the field or at scene of an incident. Using Pronto, data only needs to be entered once and can be reused and retrieved by authorised individuals in different CJS agencies.
He concluded by highlighting some of the benefits being achieved by Airwave customers using Pronto;
Saving Officers’ Time
- On the street access to police systems. Time saved in waiting for call backs from control room.
- Officers spend less time in the police station/returning to office
- Reports submitted via MDT- no requirement to wait for call backs from CHC
- Estimations suggest that each officer is saving up to 1hr/shift, equating to approx.£200,000hrs/yr. Efficiency Savings equivalent to £4.5m/year
Finding Cashable Savings
- Forecasted savings made from not using/reprinting paper forms: £30,000/yr
- Ongoing reduction in Airwave usage for second year– leading to a reduced bundle and overall cost.
- Savings made in staffing by utilising automated systems, initial saving £42,000.
- Future savings in staff costs owing to more automated systems being introduced
Improving Data Quality
- Data captured electronically at the first point of contact improves accuracy
- Vehicle ticket error rate cut from 63% to virtually zero.
- Ticket processing time cut from 7 days to < 1 day
- Efficiency savings equivalent to ~£20k/year
- CHC spent 275hrs fewer hours on the phone to police officers (June 2015) allowing better service to public
