There are three types of test that can be performed on TETRA terminals:
Conformance Testing
This is the ONLY mandatory test and is the most basic level of testing. Its purpose is to offer a minimum degree of confidence and protection to the Airwave network and its existing users from potential degradation of service as a result of potential basic problems associated with TETRA Terminals.
This was recently revised to incorporate the inclusion of conformance testing for the short data service that the Airwave network provides (only tested if the terminal supports this feature).
A TETRA terminal can obtain a “Pass”, a “Pass (Concession), “Self-Assessment” or “Fail”. Once passed, the terminal is deemed to be “Approved for Use” on the Airwave network. Passing this test does not in any way warrant that a particular TETRA terminal will work with some/all of the Airwave network services as they may not have been tested.
Functionality Testing
This test is optional but highly recommended by Airwave, and is the second stage of testing that Airwave performs. Its purpose is to confirm a wide range of Airwave or network specific functions / features with the TETRA terminal may support.
Not all of the tests specified by Airwave are appropriate to all TETRA terminals or manufacturers and only the supported features, as declared by terminal supplier, are tested.
The criteria for acceptance of this test are either by the terminal manufacturer declaring functionality compliance through the self-certification process OR by verification by Airwave staff.
If undertaken, a TETRA terminal can obtain a “Pass”, “Pass (Self Assessment)” or “Fail”.
Performance Testing
This test is optional but highly recommended by Airwave, and is the third stage of testing that Airwave performs. It is carried out on the live network and its purpose is to assess the performance of new or revised TETRA terminal software in the field, e.g. handover and site selection. If undertaken, a TETRA terminal can “pass” or “fail” this test.
Details of the exact tests that have been undertaken are shown at the back of the certificate. Please click on the appropriate certificate hyperlink to view this information. Please note that detailed information with the certificate has varied over the years, due to a change in specification of the tests, as well as a change in format of how the results were presented.
Where further information exists on the manufacturers’ website about the terminal itself, this is also available on clicking the appropriate hyperlink linked to the product number of the terminal.

Exclusions
For reasons of security, no information has been provided about covert terminals, although these will have undergone the same testing process. For details of tests and results that these terminals have undertaken, please contact the relevant manufacturer.

Security Notice
It is the responsibility of the terminal supplier and user organisation to ensure the terminal meets the Airwave Accreditor’s Radio Terminal Security Evaluation requirements before it is used on the Airwave network. Terminal suppliers are responsible for showing proof that their terminal(s) have passed the appropriate CESG security evaluation to their customers.
